Apparently we aren't the only ones enthusiastic about the nationalisitic hook in Big Brother Africa, which brought together one houseguest from 12 different countries. E! Online reports that Simon Fuller, the producer of Fox's American Idol, CTV's Canadian Idol, the U.K.'s Pop Idol and various other worldwide Idols (including the first Arab Idol, called Superstar and won by 19-year-old Jordanian Diana Karzon), now envisions a global Idol featuring winners from the different Idol versions. The contract between show producer Endemol (which also produces CBS's Big Brother) and NBC was set to expire at the end of the upcoming season, but it will now extend until May 2007. Reuters reports that NBC has upgraded its previously-announced cross-promotion between the Bravo show Queer Eye for the Straight Guy and its The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Online reports that the ratings for NBC's 2-hour Last Comic Standing finale declined from the ratings of the final performance episode the week before. The finale drew 8.2 million viewers, down from the 8.5 million who had watched the final performances (which placed the show 19th in last week's Nielsens). Although the finale won its time slot in the preliminary ratings, it also drew a smaller audience than the weekly average of 8.3 million viewers. In a new development to a conflict that we first reported in June, the Associated Press reports that Ruben Studdard, the winner of Fox's second American Idol competition and a RIAA gold-record recipient, has filed a lawsuit against 205 Flava Inc., the manufacturers of the "205" jerseys that Ruben wore on Idol.
